I have tried to get financed for a car, but can’t because I have no established credit. So I thought it would be a good idea to get a basic credit card and just use it to build my credit. By doing this, how long would it take to get “established” credit, so I would at least have some sort of credit on my credit report? How long does it take to get good credit?

As I explained during our phone conversation, the account that you have reported on my credit report belongs to my ex-husband. The information reported could possibly have been mistakenly entered.
I have never used this account nor have I signed any documentation agreeing to the use or guarantee of this account. The information is affecting my credit and under The Fair Credit Reporting Act , I would like this information deleted from my credit report.

It seems to me that consumers do not get informed and offered a chance to challenge any information before a business/lender reports him in delinquency to a credit bureau. So, how does a consumer prevents false/inaccurate report from entering his credit record in the first place? It is more important to stop false/inaccurate information from entering the system to begin with than to dispute/fight it later when it does appear in his record..

Having negative credit can affect your entire life. Not only are banks, lenders and credit card issuers pulling your credit file, employers are now using credit history as a determinant in hiring. It is getting harder to escape the consequences of having bad credit. Not everyone with bad credit is late paying all of their financial obligations. You may be timely with your rent, utility, cable, cell phone, child support and even daycare obligations. Now you have an alternative way to prove your creditworthiness. Payment Reporting Builds Credit (“PRBC”) is a national consumer reporting agency and credit bureau which collects, stores and reports bill payment information.

Can just anyone list information on a person’s credit report? Or does information get listed only by companies to whom a person has given his or her social security number in order to establish a business relationship (like to get a job, loan, or credit card)?

Involuntary credit inquiries, or soft inquiries, are credit inquiries made by a third party without consumers’ knowledge or consent. These involuntary credit inquiries do not affect our credit rating or score; however, these involuntary credit inquiries do indeed show up on consumers’ credit reports. An example of an involuntary credit inquiry would be a company pulling a consumer’s credit report to see if he or she qualifies for a promotional offer or to verify that a consumer has a solid enough credit report to be pre-approved for a product or credit line. Another example of an involuntary credit inquiry would be credit inquiries of a consumer that is an existing customer or client. For instance, after the initial credit inquiry that a credit card company makes, any subsequent credit inquiries after the consumer has been retained by the credit card company are recorded on the consumer’s credit report but are not counted against the consumer and factored into his or her credit score. Yet another example of an involuntary credit inquiry would be from a prospective employer and like the other credit inquiries discussed above do not affect our credit score or rating. The bottom line is if a consumer does not apply for credit or give a company permission to obtain a copy of his or her credit report, it is almost definitely an involuntary credit inquiry and will not be viewed as unfavorably.
I have an old balance not payed on an acount listed on my credit report. I’m willing to pay it only if the creditor will totally remove the derogatory information from my report. Is this even possible to do? What are other options?

I am looking for information about the more complicated credit report format that banks and lenders use, not the ones that consumers get from all the free credit report websites.
Thanks so much!
I am looking for information about the more complicated credit report format that banks and lenders use, not the ones that consumers get from all the free credit report websites. The Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax sites only give info on the consumer format, not the more complicated version. Thanks!
